Before the last election, the Florida Supreme Court struck down the Health Care Freedom Act, which would have allowed voters to decide whether or not amend our state constitution to prevent Obamacare's individual mandate from being enforced in Florida.
The law was challenged and the Supreme Court upheld a decision to remove it from the ballot. 5 justices, including Labarga, Perry, Pariente, Quince and Lewis, decided to prevent a challenge to Obamacare from reaching Florida voters.
Labarga and Perry faced merit retention last election, and concerned citizens throughout the state participated in a six-week Restore Justice campaign that sought to educate voters. We made history. In six short weeks we reached hundreds of thousands of people, and Justice Labarga received the lowest retention vote in state history.
Citizens are aware of judicial activism like never before. This election is critical in shaping the courts for years to come, since three Supreme Court Justices (Pariente, Quince and Lewis) are up for retention. The Restore Justice 2012 campaign is seeking to form a state-wide structure through which citizens can be educated in the decisions that judges are making and take the necessary action on election day.
