Florida Health Care Freedom Act

There's no such thing as free health care
There are a number of positive developments that have occured over the last week or so. Florida is considering bill that will effectively nullify the most dangerous aspects of the administration’s attempts to nationalize and socialize our healthcare system. It is called the Florida Health Care Freedom Act (details here). The bill is being sponsored by Scott Plakon (Florida House) and Carey Baker (Florida Senate). If you’re on Facebook, join the FHCFA group.
In essence, the bill (HJR37) does the following things: It provides Floridians the right to spend our own money to receive health care services. It also guarantees Floridians the right to choose our own health care provider, health insurance and health care service.
The 10th Amendment guarantees that the states maintain all powers that aren’t specifically surrendered in the Constitution. States, therefore, have the power to nullify any act of Congress that they deem unconstitutional. When this happens, these bills become effectively non-existent within those states.
Three other states (AZ, LA and GA) have already taken steps to nullify nationalized healthcare. Even if the public option is not passed this year, it could be progressively instituted over the coming years. We need to have laws in place that prevent this from occuring in our states, should it occur in the future.
Citizen2Citizen’s objective number one for this fall is to work to ensure the passage of this bill. In the coming weeks we’ll have more details of how you can be involved in this important effort.
