Please contact the five Senators below today by email and voice mail to their Tallahassee offices, and urge them to vote YES on SRJ 72 Thursday in the Senate Health Regulation Committee.

Thursday morning, March 4, at 8AM, the Health Care Freedom Act, Senate Joint Resolution 72 (SJR 72) will be heard before the Senate Health Regulation Committee.

The bill is sponsored by Senator Carey Baker (R), who is not on the Committee. If passed by the Senate and House with 60% of the vote, a proposition will be placed on the ballot in 2010 which would supersede any other laws to force Floridians to buy Health Insurance or restricting their options.

Two of the Committee members, including the Chairman, Don Gaetz, and Mike Bennett, have cosponsored the bill. You may of course contact them as well.

There are five other members of the Committee, including the Vice Chairman, Eleanor Sobel (D). See their contact info below.

Sen. Thad Altman (R)
lawson.alfred.web@flsenate.gov

Please contact these five Senators by email and voice mail to their Tallahassee offices, and urge them to vote YES on SRJ 72 tomorrow in Committee.

The Florida Health Care Freedom Act allows a vote on an amendment to the Florida Constitution that says any “law or rule shall not compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system,” and specifies people and employers can’t be fined for not buying insurance. This bill does not ban federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid in our state; it simply focuses on restricting the federal government from forcing Americans to participate in an insurance policy, public or private.

On Thursday the President has scheduled a televised meeting between Democrats and Republicans to try to resurrect a health care overhaul that Americans have pretty strongly opposed. I wrote a letter that you can print and send to your representatives. You can also write your own if you like.

Here’s what you can do this week:

Write your Democratic Representatives and warn them about the political danger of supporting this unpopular initiative.

Write your Republican Representatives and thank them for being the “Party of No”. Tell them the country is behind them and they can use Thursday’s PR event to boost their own ratings by voicing the people’s opposition.

Download one of these letters (or write your own): Democrat version – Republican version.

Open the file, insert your representative’s name, and address. If you need to find out who your reps are and get their address, try signing up at this site.

Print the document, sign it, fax it and mail it to both their local office and Washington, DC office as well. If you don’t have a fax machine, email me your letter and I’ll fax it.

Please be engaged. Obamacare is not dead yet. Let’s put the proverbial nail in the coffin.

FROM 10th Amendment Center:

More good news coming out of the Virginia General Assembly Thursday:

Del. Bob Marshall’s health freedom bill, HB 10, passed the House of Delegates 72-26.

The Senate bills on this issue, SB 283, SB 311 and SB 417, all passed the House Commerce and Labor committee by 17-5 margins and are headed to the floor.

At this point, several versions of the Health Care Freedom Act, which would effectively nullify various unconstitutional aspects of proposed federal health care legislation, have passed the Senate (SB417, SB283, SB311), and another has passed the House (HB10). If and when either chamber passes the other’s bill, Bob McDonnell will have the privilege of signing Health Care Freedom into law in Virginia.

And, though he may not realize it yet, Gov. McDonnell will also be delivering an important message to the politicians in Washington: Get back into your constitutional box, or We the People will put you there.

In 1980, the US Olympic Hockey team defeated the mighty Soviets in the “Miracle On Ice” in Lake Placid, New York. In the final seconds of the historic upset, broadcaster Al Michaels famously exclaimed, “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”

Fast forward nearly 30 years and history is being made again in New England. This time it’s no game. As the direction of our country hangs in the balance, Scott Brown defeated Martha Coakley to win the Massachusetts Senate seat previously held by Teddy Kennedy.

This election is historic because Republicans have not won this seat since 1952. Just one month ago, Scott brown was down more than 30% in the polls. Massachusetts voted for Obama over McCain by 26%. This state is the bluest of the blue, and a Republican won convincingly (4-5%). This would be kind of like the Republican party winning California. Epic.

Conservative Principals Always Win

Here’s how it happened: Conservative principals always win, whenever they’re on the ballot. There are some social issues in which Scott Brown is perhaps not as conservative as one might like. But this campaign was not about social issues. It was about Health care, spending and defense. And even in liberal meccas like Massachusetts, if you are conservative, and if you explain your principals of limited government, fiscal responsibility, aggressive national defense, private sector solutions rather than government intrusion of our liberty, you can win anywhere.

When liberals win, it’s because Conservatives are not on the ballot. If people have to choose between liberal and moderate, conservatives stay home and liberals win. When conservatives are on the ballot, conservatives vote, and win. Even in deep blue states like Massachusetts.

Great Moments in the Campaign

In one of the pivotal moments of the campaign, Scott Brown was asked in a debate if he was really willing to stop Health care while sitting in Teddy Kennedy’s seat, when health care was an issue Kennedy championed. He said: “With all due respect, it’s not the Kennedy’s seat…it’s the people’s seat”.

Another great moment came when Scott Brown released the commercial below, highlighting his pick-up truck.

President Obama, in a last-minute effort to save Coakley’s doomed campaign, made a pretty foolish tactical error of slamming the pick-up truck.

If I ever run for office, remind me never to make fun of trucks. Far too many people have them, and like them. For that matter, remind me never to call Curt Schilling a Yankee fan, especially if I’m running in Massachusetts, like Coakley did. What a mistake!

As a result of these hilarious gaffes, Scott Brown now rides to Washington in his pick-up truck, sits down in Kennedy’s seat and stops socialized health care. Oh, this is rich.

Democrat Strategies on Health care

The big question tonight is whether this will truly stop Obamacare. The political significance is that the Democrats now only have 59 notes, one short of 60 which is required to stop GOP filibuster, and ram bills through. Also, many Democrats are taking notice and beginning to think that if Teddy Kennedy’s seat is not even safe, then nobody’s seat is safe, and they might need to re-think their radically liberal agenda.

Politico reports that Democrats are already getting nervous. The psychological impact of this election could reverberate and stall the Obama, Pelosi and Reid agenda.

Of course we can expect the White House to entrench itself even more, and pursue every option to get this bill passed. There are a number of options that seem to be on the table:

Start over

Try to get the House to pass the Senate version and then ammend it through a process called reconciliation, only requiring 51, not 60 Senate votes

Hurry and do something before Brown is sworn in

Every option seems to have fatal flaws and extreme political costs for the Democrats. The writing is on the wall. The people have spoken. The Tea Parties are turning this ship around.

Maybe now Congress will do the right thing and ram the 2,000+ pages of this bill through the paper shredder, and start focusing on lowering taxes so businesses can keep more money, hire more people and grow this economy the way it was meant to be grown, through the private sector, rather than government spending.

First there was Virginia, New York and New Jersey. Now there’s Massachusetts of all places. Conservatism is making a comeback. 2010 is going to be a very fun year.

God help Scott Brown defeat Coakley in their race for the people’s seat formerly occupied by Ted Kennedy. This would be the 41st Republican seat, removing the Democrats 60-vote filibuster-proof majority.

Even if Scott Brown loses, the combination of this liberal state being close, coupled with the tide-reversal in New York, New Jersey and Virginia, could get the attention of enough Democrats and make them unwilling to sacrifice their political futures for the sake of passing a Healthcare bill.

In the future years religious Americans who have a conscientious objection to abortion will be placed in the terrible predicament of having to choose between disobeying the law and paying into a system that compensates doctors for the gruesome termination of unborn children’s lives.

Previous laws had prevent this. But according to Democrat congressman Bart Stupak, the current legislation before the Senate, which will be voted on tomorrow, will approve “a dramatic shift in federal policy that would allow the federal government to subsidize insurance policies with abortion coverage.”

I am still thinking through this issue, but I’m not sure how I could justify giving my money to something that I knew would be used for this purpose. I pray it does not come to this, and this initiative fails.

Your president wants to sign away your freedom this Christmas Eve. What a great way to celebrate the season of giving, by watching our public servants perform the greatest disservice to freedom in our nation’s history, reversing the centuries old principals of individualism and morality, setting the framework for the destructive power of socialized medicine and ensuing government control over every aspect of our lives.

NOT INTERESTED?

Chances are, you are one of the millions of Americans who don’t think that giving away our liberty is such a good idea. You actually believe in free market principals and personal liberty. You think this health care fiasco needs to be stopped, along with every other liberal policy that is being rammed through in an attempt to ruin our cherished political structure and constitutional republic.

GIVE THE GIFT OF FREEDOM: AWAKEN!

Instead of watching the government take away your liberty this Christmas Eve, why don’t you give the gift of freedom to a friend this holiday season by registering yourself and a friend in Awaken!, our Citizen Involvement Class. This course is a great first step for your family and friends who might not be as politically savvy as you are, but are fearful for their future and want to know what they can do to get more involved.

Give the Gift of Freedom. Register for Awaken!

The class starts January 16 and runs for six Saturday mornings. It will be held in Orlando. Todd Long, John Stemberger, John Rawlson, Scott Plakon, the Tea Party Patriots Live Radio Show and Liberty Counsel will all be there, showing concerned citizens how to get involved.
