American Heritage Course

I wanted to let you know about an exciting high school civics course I am teaching this fall called “American Heritage.” Citizen2Citizen is teaming up with the Regent Academy to provide compelling instruction in the principals and American ideals that motivate civic involvement. It is a full credit course (meets the Florida Department of Education requirements for 1 civics credit) that will discuss America’s founding principles and serve as an enhancement for any study of US History and Government.

For curriculum we are using the American Heritage Series with David Barton DVD set, as well as The 5,000 Year Leap, (W. Cleon Skousen) as our text book. Each week we will watch the DVD and participate in a class discussion. There will also be some written assignments and tests to ensure a beneficial educational experience for the students.

Our public schools and even some private schools are proactively raising up children in an educational model that neglects the true principals of freedom and discourages thoughtful exercise of responsible citizenship. This class is an attempt to equip students to combat the progression away from the values and ideals that have made this country great, and to avoid the mistakes of history by learning from history.

The classes will meet at Metro Life Church on Tuesdays. Parents are encouraged to attend the class as well, if possible. Regardless of what educational method you choose (public, private or home school), the education of your child is your God-given responsibility. Laying a solid foundation for understanding history and government is absolutely vital to equip your children to fulfill our mandate as citizens. Whether you attend this class with your student, or simply interact with them about the material during the week, I believe the topics taught in the “American Heritage” civics course is an absolute necessity for any student’s education.

Please contact Mary Reel (mreel@metrolife.org, or call 407-740-0561) to sign up today. The cost for all TRA classes is $10/wk. Feel free to tell others about this class and encourage them to sign up as well.

I would really prefer to review the course before investing. I am familiar with the works of Mr. David Barton, brilliant work. The 5000 year leap I’ve not read.

As an active retiree, I would like to volunteer? – sign-up? – join? – A (too)-long forgotten essential element in this (late) effort to awaken America.

American citizen concern regarding our nations course has long been called lazy, distracted, unconcerned: The truth is ‘only now’ being revealed.

American citizens had not been ‘unconcerned’! – The American populace had in fact been lulled to sleep or, “deliberately Dumbed-down”- if you prefer!

I can envision an army of American volunteers holding enlightenment courses,(many, retired and eager to contribute their time and experience- but can find no open doors, no tools and no organizations)… through which To educate in the story and the reason that America has not only survived, but or culture has thrived.
